Your data in Trainer
Trainer is a small personal project. This page explains exactly what it stores, who else sees any of it, and how to delete it.
What stays on your device
When you import your Apple Health export, the file is read in your browser and never uploaded. Your GPS routes, heart rate readings, ECGs and every other kind of Health record (steps, workouts' minute-by-minute data and so on) stay on your device. Only the summaries below are sent to Trainer.
What Trainer stores
- Your email address, to sign you in.
- For each run: when it was, duration, distance, elevation gain, indoors or outdoors, the app that recorded it, temperature and humidity, average and maximum heart rate, average power, per-kilometre splits, and your fastest 1 km and 5 km. The splits and fastest efforts are worked out from GPS on your device.
- For other workouts: the type, date, duration and energy burned.
- For each day: VO2max, resting heart rate, heart rate variability and hours of sleep.
- Your date of birth and sex, as recorded in Apple Health.
- Your training plans, the goals and notes you entered for them, and your questions about them with the answers.
Who else sees it
- Anthropic (the company behind Claude) writes your plans and answers your questions. For that, Trainer sends your goal, any notes you add, a training summary (weekly distances, fitness estimate, heart rate and recovery averages), your plan and your questions. Your email, date of birth and run-by-run history aren't sent; the only individual run included is the one your fitness estimate is based on. See Anthropic's privacy policy for how they handle data sent through their API.
- Resend sends sign-in emails, so it receives your email address.
- Everything else stays on the server Trainer runs on. Nothing is sold or used for advertising.
Keeping and deleting it
Your data is kept until you delete it. On your Account page you can delete your account and everything in it straight away. The database is backed up every night and backups are kept for 14 days, so anything you delete is gone from the backups within 14 days too.
Not medical advice
Trainer gives general training guidance. It doesn't know your medical history and isn't a substitute for a doctor or physio. If you have a health condition, an injury, or symptoms like chest pain or dizziness, get medical advice before training.
